Winners of Our 30th Annual Gurwin Photo Contest Have Been Selected!

We’d like to thank our panel of professional photographers who helped select this year’s winning photos for their expertise and their time — Tony Lopez of East End Film & Digital Corp., Chris Appoldt of Christopher Appoldt Photography, and Christopher Geminski of The Tiffen Company.  With more than 400 entries, choosing the best of the best was no easy task!

The next round of judging is underway by our residents and staff at Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Winners will be contacted by mail and honored at an awards ceremony this summer to be held at Gurwin’s new independent living community, Fountaingate Gardens, located on our beautiful 36-acre Commack campus.  Stay tuned for more details!

About our Contest

This year marks Gurwin’s 30th year hosting Long Island’s premier photography contest.   Each year, submissions are solicited from amateur photographers and students from all over the world.  Up to seven 8×10 printed photos are accepted per photographer at a $5 donation per entry.  Photos entered are judged by a panel of professional photographers, and winners in each category, as well as Best In Show honors, are presented at an awards ceremony in early summer.  Photos chosen by our judges are enlarged to 20×28 prints, beautifully frame and displayed permanently in our 460-bed nursing and rehabilitation center for the enjoyment of our residents, staff and visitors.  Every entry is a winner in our unique contest, in that submitted prints are used in art therapy and reminiscence programs for residents and adult day program participants throughout the year.

On behalf of the 460 residents who call Gurwin “home,” their families, and our staff and volunteers, thank you to all those who entered for sharing your talent with us.
