Frequently Asked Questions: Short Term Rehabilitation on Long Island

How often is therapy available for residents?

The rehabilitation schedule is based on each resident’s needs and tolerance, as well as professional recommendations. Most short-term rehabilitation residents receive five or six days of therapy a week. However, our rehabilitation team provides coverage seven days a week. Short-term rehabilitation residents typically receive 1½ hours of therapy a day, but it can be more or less, as dictated by the resident’s need and tolerance level. Rehabilitation will not exceed three hours a day.

What if the resident doesn’t feel up to going to therapy on a given day?

Gurwin will make attempts to try therapy again either later in the day or the next day. Therapists will confer with the medical department and follow their recommendations. It is important to note that missing therapy for more than three days may affect Medicare eligibility.
