Therapeutic Recreation

Our Therapeutic Recreation programs have won state-wide awards for their innovative and dynamic content. We exceed regulatory standards, fulfilling all standards of practice of the National Therapeutic Recreation Society and American Therapeutic Recreation Association. Our therapists have both education and certification credentials, enabling us to provide a broad range of clinical therapeutic recreation services, leisure education, leisure counseling and diversional activities.

Our creative and progressive programs include:

  • "The Healing Mind" Workshop - teaches coping techniques, pain management, stress reduction and alternative healing arts.
  • Adult Education Program - encourages continued education through eight courses conducted over an eight month period. Each spring, participants and families attend a graduation ceremony, complete with caps and gowns, valedictorian and salutatorian addresses & diplomas. Courses vary in the humanities, sciences and language arts.
  • RE-ACH Program (Resident Enhancement - A Communication Highway) - connects residents with members of the community, via telephone, video, Internet, letters or friendly visitors.
  • Resident Council - is the voice of the resident population. It sponsors special events, horticulture activities, and community charitable work.
  • Multi-cultural and Intergenerational Programs - students from several local schools interact with residents on a group and personal level. Multi-cultural programs reflect our diverse cultural population by certified clinicians.
  • Pet, Puppet, Music, Recreation and Art Therapies - are offered on each unit, in each room and at bedside.
  • And many more! New programs are designed continually based upon individual residents' interests and desires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does your programming offer a variety of opportunities for involvement?

Our program calendar reflects individual abilities, needs and interests, for those residents with severe cognitive or physical impairments as well as residents who seek intellectual, motivational, inspirational, educational, and physically-stimulating activities. Age-appropriate programs address residents with behavioral disorders, visual, hearing, or communication deficits and those receiving rehabilitation, dialysis, respiratory care and hospice care.

How often are activities and programs available to residents?

Various morning and afternoon activities are planned seven days a week. We also provide live entertainment during our evening cabaret program Sunday through Thursday evenings.

What if a resident is confined to his/her room?

Individualized services such as pet visits, strolling minstrels, and bed-and room-bound activities are provided to meet individual needs. An in-house closed-circuit television system allows each resident to access programs through a cable channel in the comfort of his/her own room.

Do any of the planned activities allow for family involvement?

Family members participate in many activities and programs, such as the annual resident masquerade ball and fashion show, banquets, drama productions, cocktail parties and adult education lectures.
