Commack, NY- Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center volunteers Hannah & Dr. William Kampel (Melville) were honored at the Gurwin Auxiliary’s annual Paid Up Membership Event recently. The Gurwin Auxiliary provides for the cultural, spiritual, physical, educational and recreational needs of Gurwin Center residents and Adult Day Health Program registrants, in order to nurture their happiness and well-being. All proceeds from the variety of events held annually by the Auxiliary benefit resident life enrichment programs.

The Kampels have been active in the Auxiliary since its early years. Hannah has held elective office as Financial Secretary, Vice President, President Elect and ultimately President. Further, she has served as Parliamentarian and as Co-Chair of events including the Annual Tribute Gala and the Sweetheart Sale.

Bill Kampel, ever a supporter of his wife’s activities, was instrumental in assisting the Auxiliary in the establishment of a Thrift Shop in Lindenhurst, and for several years he acted as Editor of the Auxiliary newsletter.

In addition to their work with the Gurwin Auxiliary, the Kampels are active members of Huntington Jewish Center. Hannah volunteers at the Dolan Health Center and the Jewish Nutritional Network, and Bill remains active in Alpha Omega, the Jewish dental fraternity. Hannah also performs with the Red Hot Mamas, a tap-dance troupe of senior women.

The Kampels recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and are the parents of Dr. Michael Kampel of Hauppauge and Geraldine Kania of Sothington, CT.
