Commack, NY- Celebrating its 20th year of raising vital funds for the Gurwin Healthcare Foundation, the Leonard Ugelow Memorial Gurwin Classic will be held August 25, 2008 at the Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury. The foundation is pleased this year to honor two men whose commitment to philanthropy and the community is inspiring: Joseph Willen (Northport) and Ted Weiss (Lloyd Harbor).
Joseph Willen, President and CEO of The Advantage Group, has long been involved with the Gurwin family, having served as a member of the Center’s inaugural Leadership Council. Joe and his wife Kim attend many of the events hosted by the Gurwin Jewish Healthcare Foundation, and are always among the guests at our annual Gurwin Classic.
Willen founded Advantage Title more than 20 years ago, and built it into one of the leading title insurance firms in the region. Recently expanding to be known as the Advantage Group of Companies, the Huntington-based company handles business in commercial titles, foreclosures, settlements, mortgage brokering and legal advertising. In addition to its Huntington location, the company also has offices in Manhattan, and employs more than 150 people.
Besides his professional life, Willen is devoted to serving the community. He has worked with the Nature Conservancy, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, Habitat for Humanity, the Family Service League and the Institute for Student Achievement, as well as Gurwin. A graduate of Ithaca College, Willen lives in Northport with his wife Kim and three daughters. In the time he is not involved with business or community service, he enjoys golf, boating and snowboarding with his family.
Ted Weiss is CEO of T. Weiss Realty Corp., whose name has been synonymous with quality commercial office buildings for more than 30 years. Since he founded the company, his focus has been on developing superior work environments that create a holistic atmosphere that attract and retain quality professionals to the Long Island community. These environments look to address a tenant’s every need, both personal and professional, in addition to providing state-of-the-art office space.
Weiss is committed to growing business on Long Island and initiated the Melville Executive Forum to attract and keep young, talented professionals in the area. He is a member of the Long Island Association, the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Commercial Real Estate, the Commercial Industrial Brokers Society and the Route 110 Redevelopment Corp.
Dedicated to the betterment of Long Island, Weiss’ energies extend beyond his professional associations. He has worked with and contributed to a multitude of charities including Toys of Hope, Make-A-Wish-Foundation, UJA-Federation of New York and the Huntington Holiday House. Ted was honored by the Family Service League in 2002, The March of Dimes in 2003 and the Nature Conservancy in 2006, in their annual galas.
Weiss resides in Lloyd Harbor and Westhampton Beach with his wife of 37 years, Pamela and their two yellow Labs.Weiss enjoys cruising between Maine and the Bahamas on his boat “Risk Reward” with his wife, family and friends. His other interests include golf, running and swimming.
The Gurwin Jewish Healthcare Foundation is delighted to honor Ted Weiss and Joseph Willen this year.
