Commack, NY— The Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is pleased to annouce a special summer program for teens ages 13 and up, who are interested in exploring career choices within the health care industry. The camp meets every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for three weeks and participants can still register for the second session August 5th through August 21st. The session will be limited to 12 students considering a career within the health field, and is FREE to all participants.
Campers will have the opportunity to develop relationships with residents & staff of the nursing & rehabilitation center, as well as their peers as they work in a supportive learning environment. Each camper will participate in sensitivity training, recreation and individual activities with Gurwin’s residents.
“Here at Gurwin, camp participants will develop leadership and communication skills,” said Jan Johnson, Educational Program Coordinator “The campers will also obtain a clear understanding of the educational and vocational requirements of various professional fields.”
Participants will focus closely on effective communication, special needs of the elderly, social work, therapeutic recreation, rehabilitation, and nutritional services.
Elena, a past Gurwin camp participant said, “My time at Gurwin has influenced my choices and beliefs. I owe it all to the residents, who have made a major impact on my life.”
