Commack, NY— The Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (Commack) has been seleted as a recipient for a national initiative known as “AmeriCorps in Eldercare Settings” - ACES. This initiative provides a grant which will provide a stipended temporary position for an experienced baby boomer with good organizational skills and community connections to be part of the Gurwin Auxiliary’s growth initiative.
According to Gurwin Director of Volunteer Services Kathleen Donnelly, “This grant will allow us to engage a seasoned professional with management experience to help grow this vital and
committed organization.” The beauty of the grant, Donnelly says, is that the individual selected for the position can be very flexible in their time commitment - as long as they complete 900 hours over the course of one year. In addition to the stipend, the successful candidate will be awarded an education credit of $2362 at the end of the program, which may be applied to the furtherance of his or her own education, or may be gifted to a child or grandchild.
“Individuals with a commitment to personal development, who are willing to share their skills and who recognize the value of an organization like the Gurwin Auxiliary to the life of our
residents and the community are invited to apply,” said Donnelly. “This is the perfect opportunity for someone who is not really interested in long-term, permanent employment to explore a new
challenge... one which will benefit so many people, now and in the future.”
