Commack, NY— Seniors at the Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Commack are anxiously awaiting their Senior Prom...an intergenerational gala to be held at the Center (68 Hauppauge Road, Commack) on Tuesday, May 12th beginning at 7:15 p.m. Their dates for the evening are the students from Deer Park High School, who will escort the Center residents to a night of dancing and fun. All participants will be dressed in prom attire , a DJ will spin popular music from “yesterday” and today, and the residents and students will have the opportunity to get to know one another as they dance the night away.
“We have been holding this event for many years,” said Karen Nash, Director of Therapeutic Recreation at the Center, “and our residents look forward to it all year long. They love getting dressed up and interacting with the students. The students come back year after year, so it’s obvious that they enjoy it as well!”
A highlight of the evening is the crowning of the Prom King and Queen, as well as the naming of the Prom court. Catherine Lee Sanna was elected Prom Queen by her fellow residents, and she is thrilled. “I am so excited,” she said. “I can’t wait for Tuesday!”
