Commack, NY— The Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (Commack) is pleased to announce that five Center residents have had their original artwork selected for inclusion in the 2009 New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging Traveling Art Exhibition. The residents are: Sylvia Lipeles (age 95), Ida Klubok (age 81), Laura Fiore (age 47), Ron Goldstein (age 74), and Catherine Lee Sanna (age 57).

The annual, traveling NYAHSA Art Exhibit is a collection of the works of residents, staff and volunteers from facilities who are affiliated with the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. All submitted artwork was judged by professional artists, who selected 70 pieces for the traveling show. The exhibit begins in the capital region, and will visit eight regions throughout New York State.

Gurwin’s Art Therapist, Johanna Cutolo has mentored many Gurwin residents and Adult Day Health Program participants who went on to become NYAHSA winners over the past two decades. Many residents who participated in the variety of art programs offered have little or no art experience. It is an outstanding accomplishment that five Gurwin residents’ artwork have been chosen to be displayed in the Exhibit.
